How To Hang Pencil Pleat Curtains

How To Hang and Put Hooks Into Pencil Pleat Curtains - Download PDF Version

The top of your pencil pleat curtains have a heading tape stitched across the top. There will be three height positions in which you can insert your hooks. Each of these positions has a set of strings into which you insert your hooks. At the end of the curtains you will see 3 loose strings that are latter pulled to put the pleats into the curtains.

The following steps describe how to hang pencil pleat curtains.

  • Work out which row you want to put the curtain hooks in. The row chosen will depend on where you want the bottom of the curtains to finish.
  • Insert the hooks into every 4 pockets.

  • Ensure that for one end of the curtains the strings are tried together, see above. This will stop the strings from being pulled all the way through. The one end of the heading tape maybe already folded under, if possible still try and tie the strings together.

  • Pull all three strings at the same time until the curtains are just over half the width of the curtain track or poles (assuming the curtains are a pair).
  • Tie the strings together you have just pulled using a knot that you can easily undo in the event of needing to adjust the fullness.
  • Distribute the pleats evenly across the width of the curtains.
  • Slide the gliders onto the track or attach the hooks to the gliders or curtain ring.
  • If hanging from a track ensure that the end stop is fixed, otherwise your curtains will slide off the track when opened.
  • The curtains may look a little crumpled, but these will fall out over the course of a few weeks.
