Cushion Cover Creativity

The beauty of made to measure cushion covers is that you can have them co-ordinating with your cushions, sofa, beanbag and any number of household textile items. Whether they are bedroom cushions, dining chair cushions, window cushions, scatter cushions for the living room or even kitchen cushions, they can also be styled to suit your tastes and current décor scheme.

And custom-made cushions aren’t just restricted to indoors either. Special hard-wearing fabric available these days means you can also use them for your porch area or even in the garden.

Customising High Street Cushions

You could also re-cover a formerly favourite cushion or two that you’ve bought on the high street but have become bored with over the years. Perhaps you’ve altered your décor scheme too since buying them – in which case now is the perfect time for a change.

Alternatively you could purchase basic cushions from the high street and make them more special by covering with a designer fabric of your choice. At Curtains Made Simple we have hundreds of patterns and textures in a myriad of colours from some of the leading design houses both in the UK and internationally. We offer fabric from such well-known and prestigious designers such as Elanbach, Emily Burningham, Clarke & Clarke, Prestigious Textiles and Andrew Martin.

Cushions for All Tastes

Whether your style is vintage, shabby chic, traditional, modern or even Art Deco we have cushions to suit all tastes in a fabric of your choice such as velvet cushions, silk cushions, chenille cushions or a linen/cotton mix.

Some of our favourite current designs, which we think would make striking cushions include Andrew Martin’s Fab 4 selection: Andrew Martin's Beatles fabric collection Or, for a shabby chic look, cushion fabric from Cabbages & Roses collection:

Then again, The Swedish Fabric Co’s Almedahls range is perfect for an autumn/winter feel in your home:

Styles of Cushion Covers

If you’re planning on making your own cushion covers there are a number of styles to consider, such as envelope cushion covers (the simplest style), zipped cushion covers, frilled cushion covers and the larger bolster cushion covers.

Popular cushion stuffing meanwhile includes foam or feathers. The latter are best used indoors and in a pet-free zone (certainly one with an animal without claws or an inquisitive beak).

Cushions for the Kids Room

Kids love the comfort of snuggling up to cushions (and a few of us adults do too). There’s some fantastic illustrated fabric designs out at the moment with splashing of primary colours and which are sure to appeal to little ones. The Forest Friends collection from Prestigious Textiles is a particular favourite:

So too is Marikekko from The Swedish Textiles Co:

Now is actually the perfect time of year for recovering garden cushions, patio cushions and sun lounger cushions. And if making the covers yourself seems a bit of a chore then why not have them custom made? At Curtains Made Simple we’ve been making cushion covers for years and would be happy to design to your exact specifications or advise you on the best type of fabric for your particular needs.
